The Glasenbachklamm is not a gorge in the strict sense of the word, but rather a V-shaped valley carved out by the Klausbach after the last Ice Age. Over thousands of years, the stream cut deep into the bedrock, creating a length of approximately 250 Million Years of Earth's History<\/strong> free.<\/p>\n

Because of its extraordinary rock formations, abundance of fossils, and diverse vegetation, the Glasenbach Gorge was 1987<\/strong> to the Protected Landscape Area<\/strong> explained. Already 1965<\/strong> The first nature trail was created through the gorge, which is about three kilometers long.<\/p>\n

About 200 million years ago, a tropical sea covered the area that is now the Glasenbachklamm. Fossils discovered here bear witness to this and offer a fascinating glimpse into the Earth\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

The most significant find is an ichthyosaur, whose remains were discovered during blasting work in the stream bed of the Glasenbachklamm gorge. The original fossil is now on display at the Haus der Natur in Salzburg. A faithful replica at the site commemorates this impressive prehistoric creature.<\/p>\n
